Tybee Island

Tybee Island is a barrier island in Georgia that has been a vacation destination since the late 1800’s. It is located just 18 miles from Savannah, Georgia. It is known for its long wide stretches of sandy beaches that includes a pier and pavilion. Local history includes an 18th century still functioning lighthouse and a 19th century Fort Screven with concrete gun batteries. Museums include the Tybee Island Light Station and Battery Garland. A recently completed Tybee Island Marine Science Center adds to the list of things to do. There are shops, restaurants, a community theater, bike and golf cart rentals as well as boating, fishing, and kayaking to keep everyone busy. Or, just spend a relaxing day on the beautiful beaches.
